With the rapid growth of car ownership in China,road safety problems were also exposed gradually,we were reminded by more and more traffic accidents that it was urgent to solve the problem of road safety.Excellent braking performance is the fundamental guarantee for automotive safety,however,a single vehicle brake can not meet the requirement of the high braking,in this case,the emergence of auxiliary braking device was a good solution to this problem.As a kind of auxiliary braking device,hydraulic retarder unit hydraulic retarder,with advantages of great output torque,durable time of braking,made great contribution to improve vehicle braking performance.In our country,however,less research were conducted on the hydraulic retarder,so the application and development of domestic hydraulic retarder were restricted.In order to fully illustrate the influence that hydraulic retarder exerted on braking performance,This paper based on the hydraulic retarder Project,which came from FAW Qingdao automobile co.LTD.The working principle of hydraulic retarder was grasped by the means of theoretical analysis,bench test and simulation analysis,output torque equation was obtained,and the influence of liquid rate had on the output torque was analyzed by using similarity principle.Bench test scheme design of hydraulic retarder as the focus in this Paper was designed,test data was obtained and the output torque equation was verified through physical hydraulic retarder Bench test.Vehicle simulation model was established by AVL Cruise,the simulation analysis was mainly carried out on the vehicles which were equipped with hydraulic retarder when the car were in condition of flat road and long downhill road.The simulation results show that: compared with the condition that vehicle brake brakes alone,the car which are equipped with hydraulic retarder are able to slow down and stop with shorter braking distance,shorter braking time and larger braking deceleration,and the downhill can be completed at a constant speed.Therefore,the conclusion is that braking performance can be improved when the car are equipped with hydraulic retarder,and its braking efficiency can be ensured constantly.
