| Expanded polyethylene has been widely used in the cushion packaging design of consumer electronics,precision instruments and other products.But it also has many disadvantages,including large volume,high transport,inventory costs and so on.Air bag with small volume is green and easy to recycle.It can replace the expanded polyethylene and will be used in various products.However,there is no unified standard for the cushion packaging design of air bag so far.The packaging often needs many times tests,which not only takes time and energy,but also increases costs.The cushioning mechanism of air bag was introduced.On this basis,the paper analyzed mechanical properties for air bag by dynamic compression tests and sweep vibration tests.The results can provide computation references to reasonable packaging design and application of products.To explore the performance of cushioning and vibration isolation for air bag and expanded polyethylene,dynamic compression experiments compared the maximum acceleration-static stress curves of two cushioning materials.By analyzing sweep vibration test data and building the relation between vibration transmissibility and air bag height,the performance of vibration isolation for two materials can be compared.Results showed that expanded polyethylene has a smaller acceleration under the same shock pressure and better cushioning properties.Air bag has strong carrying capacity,which can resist the shock of impact.When the thickness is 20mm,vibration range for air bag is 37-200Hz,while expanded polyethylene is 64-200Hz.At a high frequency,two materials both have excellent effect in reducing vibration.The frequency range of air bag is greater than expanded polyethylene.At a low frequency,expanded polyethylene defeats air bag at isolation performance.Expanded polyethylene has a higher natural frequency under the same condition,which means it has a large elastic modulus.When the thickness is 20mm,the natural frequency of expanded polyethylene is 18Hz,while air bag is 42Hz.Packaging design showed that air bag has good performance of cushioning and vibration isolation as the cushion packaging material.It can protect the inside products safely and meet the protection requirements. |
