Forklift belongs to engineering machinery,and the range of its application is very wide.At present,the steering system of domestic forklift is mainly hydraulic and mechanical.With the development of electronic technology,a new type of steering system had emerged which called Electric Power Assisted Steering(EPAS).The EPAS system has a lot of advantages compared to the hydraulic system such as saving more energy,protecting environment,compact structure,high efficiency,easy maintenance,automatic aligning,light weight,high portability,so its application to the field of forklift is an inevitable trend.Therefore,it is of great theoretical value and practical significance to carry out the research on forklift EPAS system.First,the paper introduces the main composition and working principle of the EPAS system,presenting a torque signal acquisition device according to the similarity of the EPAS systems,and designed three schemes for it,named spring type,long spring type,short spring type,and ultimately determined the single layer short spring torque signal acquisition device,Then,the paper proposed a new design scheme of EPAS system by studying the ps15 three fulcrum forklift of NOBLELIFT Machinery Co.Ltd based on the designed torque signal acquisition device.Secondly,the mathematical model of EPAS system is established,in order to determine the reliability of its structure,finite element analysis of the key components has been made by ANSYS,and the dynamic simulation is carried out on ADAMS,it provides a theoretical basis for the control of the system.Finally,the experiment platform of EPAS system is built,and the related experiments are completed.The experimental data shows that:1)New EPAS system's structure is stable and reliable,and the system can ensure the steering performance of forklift;2)Torque signal acquisition device can ensure the stability of the mechanical steering;3)The experiments can test the similar EPAS system well.
