Ming Dynasty government built many military defense settlement such as the Wei Fortress and Suo Fortress in coastal areas in order to defense the enemy and protect the security of the border area.As one of the most serious province that intruded by Japanese Pirates in the Ming Dynasty,Fujian’s coastal defense system construction is the most complete.In many coastal defense of military settlements in Fujian,Wei Fortress and Suo Fortress is a typical representative of military settlements.Meihua Suo Fortress which is located in the northeast of Changle and the southern coast of the Minjiang estuary,both has the general characteristics of Fujian coastal defence military settlements of the Ming dynasty and its unique geographical location features.Its military defensive settlements that created in the Ming dynasty who under WeiSuo Military System,has a high architecture research value.,It is the research emphasis in this paper that to study the settlement space form and the military defense system.This paper chooses the Meihua Suo fortress from Fujian coastal defense settlement as the research object.From the perspective of architecture and urban planning,this paper analyzes the historical evolution,regional characteristics,climatic and geographical features of the fortress,and focuses on the characteristics of the settlement spatial morphology.Finally,according to the existing problems of Meihua Suo fortress,the author puts forward the protective research strategy.The first chapter is the introduction,mainly expounds the research background and significance,research status in related fields,summarize the achievement and direction of the Ming Dynasty Fujian coastal military settlements research,and then determine the research scope,research contents and research framework.In the second chapter,the author discusses the general situation of Fujian coastal defense military settlement,which is divided into three layers.Firstly,we analyzes the Ming Dynasty’s situation of coastal defense,military system and coastal defense system at the national level,and then we analyzes its background,the establishment of settlements and command system at Fujian province level,finally we analyzes its history,location characteristics,geography and climatic factors at the specific object level.The third chapter,the author analyzes the space form of Meihua Suo fortress military settlements,hierarchical analysis of specific morphological features of Meihua Suo fortress,the first from the macro analysis of the overall layout of the fortress and the site,and then from the perspective of the fortress to explore the morphological character of the streets and alleys,and finally from the micro analyzes the spatial characteristics of the fortress node.In the fourth chapter,the author describes and analyzes the building monomer in the fortress.According to the function and shape,the buildings in the settlement can be divided into four categories:the military defense building,the administrative organ building,the religious ritual building and the vernacular building.The description and analysis of these four types of buildings can be used to understand the building shape and functional features of the coastal military settlement.This paper attempts to explore Fujian coastal military settlements unique geographical characteristics,through the analysis of the Meihua Suo fortress,revealing its internal relations with the geographical location,climate and terrain conditions and military defense,obtaining the morphological characteristics of Meihua Suo fortress settlement,It is of some significance for the protection and research of other coastal defense settlements in Fujian.
