As one of typical vibration control device,the tuned mass damper(TMD)has received widespread acceptance and applied in the field of wind-resistance for its easy installation and low cost.But its narrow effective band makes it unstable under the earthquake excitation.Based on the traditional TMD,the proposed pounding tuned mass damper(P-TMD)absorbs energy through the collision between mass block and viscoelastic material.This energy dissipation mechanism gives P-TMD the ability of adaptiveness under different external excitation.In order to further improve the robustness of P-TMD,the method of theory combining with experimentation is adopted to study the optimal parameter and energy dissipation mechanism of Multiple Pounding Tuned Mass Damper(MP-TMD).The main work and achievements are as follows:(1)According to the working principle and improved pounding force model of P-TMD,the motion equation of structure coupled with MP-TMD is established.Based on the research of MTMD,comparative study of different parameter model and the determination of initial parameter in the design process is studied.(2)A 21-story simplified model of steel frame structure is established by ANSYS software.In order to study the dynamic response of structure under different earthquake excitation,the dynamic simulation system is founded by using the module of MATLAB software-Simulink.Based on the simulation results,the effect of parameters and energy dissipation mechanism are studied.Then,the design procedure of optimal parameter for MP-TMD is proposed.(3)In order to validate the effectiveness of MP-TMD,a steel frame structure,simulating high-rise structure from its own dynamic characteristic,is designed for shaking table test.The results indicate that both of MP-TMD and P-TMD show great effectiveness with the increase of earthquake intensity.The number of P-TMD and total mass ratio have a certain influence on the performance of MP-TMD system.In the meantime,relatively stable performance of MP-TMD can be achieved with appropriate gap value.Compared with MP-TMD,the dynamic response of structure coupled with P-TMD appears to show some shock and spikes during the experimental process.Generally,MP-TMD system makes installation easier by reducing the mass ratio for each P-TMD.The control band width and stability of P-TMD system is further improved by MP-TMD system,which greatly improves the robustness and effect of the control system under different external excitation.
