Over the past two decades,China has rapidly advanced the process of urbanization.With the explosive expansion of urban scale,urban transport system has also been developed.Compared normal urban roads,the unban freeway system can serve the long-distance and high-speed traffic demand in a non-interrupt environment,which can increase the average speed,reduce the travel delay,improve the overall urban transport network operation efficiency as well.Due to the well-recognized benefits,the construction and management of urban freeway system get more and more attentions.It has become an important part of urban roadway system for many large and medium-sized cities in China nowadays.In order to improve urban freeway safety and efficiency,the related traffic engineering research and practices has gradually become hot topics recently.One of those topics is the optimization of guiding information setup scheme along multi-lane urban freeways,in particular of Ten-lane urban freeway related.Optimum guiding information setting can avoid the blockage,information lost or overload,and provide effective assist to drivers when they make decisions of travel route and lane merging,which can reduce the driver meaningless or wrong driving behavior and avoid traffic accident potentially.Aimed to optimize the guiding information setup scheme along the ten-lane urban freeway,this paper analyzes the characteristics of the traffic operation on the ten-lane urban freeway and the principle of setting guiding information.Then the key issues of guiding information settings were put forward.The probability analysis model of information blockage and calculation model of maximum and minimum guiding information advanced distance were built as well.The Combined with optimization methods and engineering judgements,the paper further proposed optimization measures of guiding information setting along ten-lane urban freeway.One segment of ten lane urban freeway in Chongqing Inner Ring Expressway was selected as an example in this paper.Using UC-Win Road software,a simulation model was built to analyze the performance of the proposed method in a way of before and after comparison.Through the driver's test evaluation,result showed that the improvement can be found after the optimization by the method proposed in this paper.
