With the continuous expansion of urban area, more and more households choose pipeline gas.The total number of urban gas pipelines is increasing day by day. Therefore, the pipeline industry also needs to invest a lot of manpower and material resources. With the increase of the use time of the gas pipeline and the influence of the surrounding environment of the pipeline, the internal and external surfaces of the pipeline will inevitably be damaged and cracked. The corrosion will cause thinning, rusting, and perforation of the pipe wall.As a result of these corrosions, the gas in the pipe will leak, causing environmental pollution and fire.Gas pipelines are often distributed in densely populated areas or in the underground areas of bustling areas.Damaged pipes can cause a lot of personal injury and asset damage. To avoid these hazards, regular inspections of pipeline defects are required. The research in this paper is based on the gradually matured drones and proposes to combine drone technology with infrared thermal imaging technology to solve the problem of pipeline defect detection.Through the analysis of heat conduction theory, finite element method, infrared thermal imaging technology and image processing technology, the problem of the pipeline defect positioning, defect shape recognition and other related issues are expected to be solved. The research contents of this paper are:(1)The existing pipeline defect detection technology and drone technology are combined to determine the detection scheme.ANSYS finite element simulation software is used to carry out simulation experiments on pipeline defects.Firstly,a simulation model is established and mesh is divided. Then the simulation model is loaded with thermal excitation source. Finally, defect simulation diagram at different heating time is obtained.Through the comparative analysis of the simulation diagram, the defect parameters affecting the temperature field distribution on the pipe surface are determined, which verifies the feasibility of the program theoretically.(2)UAV-loaded infrared image acquisition system is to be designed. As to the hardware circuit of the system, the data transmission circuit and data storage circuit between the UAV and the infrared camera are mainly designed. Then the collected image is uploaded to the host computer for image processing analysis.(3)For edge detection of infrared images, the paper improves a data fusion edge detection algorithm based on wavelet transform. In the MATLAB environment, the simulation comparison between this algorithm and several classic edge detection algorithms are conducted. The simulation results validate that the detection method in this paper has a very significant detection effect on the target surface defects. With the increasingly prominent pipeline safety issues, the study of pipeline defect detection methods is of great significance. In this paper,by combining the popular UAV technology and infrared thermal imaging technology and using ANSYS software to simulate the infrared pipeline defects, the implementation of the infrared detection method of UAV-based pipeline is verified. Then,on the basis of the mature drone, the acquisition, analysis and processing of pipeline infrared image is conducted. The image is processed by wavelet transform data fusion edge detection method, which helps to inspect pipe defect more efficiently. The method of UAV-based infrared thermal imaging pipeline detection improves the efficiency of pipeline detection, reduces the accident rate and prolongs the service period of the pipeline, which brings considerable economic benefits to the pipeline industry.
