After the reform of state-owned enterprises(SOEs)and housing reform in 1998,the units(formerly state-owned danwei)have gradually ended their responsibility for housing allocation and community construction, which directly leads to dissolution of danwei compounds, rapid development of residential suburbanization, further job-housing separation and serious commuting problems. With the rapid development of computer technology and the popularization of social networks,LBS technology has been applied to all aspects of daily life.Large-scale,high-quality big data with physical space-time tags has become a new method for studying urban problems. This article uses multi-source data, such as public transportation smart card data in Wuhan Urban Development Area from March 23 to March 29,2015,POI data, travel time data and house prices,to extract residents' travel behavior characteristics combining Wuhan residents' travel survey reports,furthermore,rule-based decision tree method is applied to extracting commuter travel. Methods of data mining such as hierarchical clustering and k-means clustering are applied to clustering the metro stations characterized by time-based traffic flow, and clusters are defined by the POI distribution around the stations. Finally, thanks to the geography big data visualization technology, commuting characteristics and urban functional structure of Wuhan are evaluated from the aspects of commuting flow,jobs-housing space, commuting efficiency, and station classification based on the commuting mode at the individual level. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)Wuhan is still a monocentric city, and both living and employment are concentrated in the main city.(2)Commuting to the main city is still the majority of the four commuting modes.Central city with better jobs-housing balance has short commuting time. The commuting time of the far city is significantly greater than that of the main city, and also the matching degree of jobs-housing space is not as good as that of the main city.(3)The jobs-housing space in the Wuhan Urban Development Zone is characterized by sub-circulation.The main city contains the largest number of employed and resident populations.Jobs-housing balance and commuting time differ a lot in each of other groups.Even though the far city has evacuated some residents in the central city, their employment attraction is still weak, and the main function undertaken by far city is still to live.(4)The commuting connections between the central city and the far city are a little loose, and there is not much contact between the new city groups.(5)Donghu Hi-tech Zone,Zhuankou and the Western New City adjacent to Tazi Lake has initially formed a secondary employment center.(6)The subway stations are classified into mixed type stations, mixed mainly residential-oriented stations,employment-oriented stations, mixed mainly employment-oriented stations, transportation hubs, and life services stations. The traffic flow of subway stations can effectively correlate individual behaviors with spatial entities, which is a true reflection of urban residents' use of the stations.
