Adverse weather conditions have a significant impact on road condition, vehicle performance, visual distance, driving behavior, travel demand, traffic flow characteristics and traffic safety.Visibility decreases due to fog, smoke or heavy rain, which seriously affects driver's driving behavior and driving safety,so visibility is very important for driving tasks. As one of the most basic micro driving behavior, the car-following behavior may change when it is affected by low visibility. The collision avoidance behavior,as one of the car-following behavior,is also worth studying when it is affected by visibility. The topic of this thesis comes from the National Natural Science Foundation of China of “Accident Risk Assessment of Highway Traffic Flow and Optimization of Safety Design Parameters under the Influence of Visibility(NO.51578207)”.This thesis focused on driver's behavior under car-following condition, used the driving simulator to collect data on driving behavior and physiological characteristics of 30 drivers under 5 visibilities, which was 20 m,35m,60 m,140m and clear day.Descriptive statistics analysis,ANOVA,MANOVA and LSD multiple comparison test, independent T test methods was used to analyze the data. Finally, the binary Logistic regression model was used to establish a rear risk assessment model based on the impact of visibility and driver behavior. The driver behavior under different visibilities and front vehicle speeds was studied. The results showed that there is no significant difference in driver's vehicle speed while there are significant differences in headway and lateral lane deviation. The collision avoidance behavior of drivers under different visibility shows that their collision avoidance response time, deceleration speed,TTC and other collision avoidance parameters are significantly different under different visibility conditions. In the physiological characteristics of the driver, visibility has varying degrees of influence on driver's heart rate and R-R interval of the driver's car following stage and collision avoidance stage.Sex factors and professional/non-professional drivers have different degrees of difference in the car following behavior and collision avoidance behavior under different visibility. In addition, the rear-end collision risk assessment model based on visibility and driver behavior shows that visibility,professional/non-professional drivers, collision avoidance response time and minimum TTC are the main factors that affect the rear-end collision of drivers under low visibility condition.By studying the carfollowing behavior under the influence of visibility,we can reveal the influence degree of driver's behavior on road traffic safety, which can provide theoretical basis for improving road facilities and preventing road traffic accidents,so as to reduce traffic accidents and improve traffic efficiency.
