With the rapid development of China's economic, the available quantity of urban land is decreasing rapidly. The shortage of land resources restricts the further development of social economy in coastal areas.Reclamation of land from the sea has become an effective way to alleviate the shortage of land resources in the coastal areas. In this paper, the influence of electric field factors on the electro-osmosis drainage is studied through numerical analysis and laboratory test. The influence of the distribution of electric potential and electric field intensity on electro-osmosis is analyzed. The standard for evaluation of electro-osmotic drainage under different arrangement of electrodes are put forward. The main conclusions of the study are as follows:(1)The finite element software Comsol is used to analyze the distribution of electric potential and the electric field intensity in the soil. The results show that during the development of electro-osmosis the distribution of electric field can be determined and only the numeric size changes with time when the electrode arrangement is fixed.(2)A model test is carried out under different distribution of electric potential. The experiment results show that enlarging the cathode area has little effect on average effective potential,so electro-osmotic drainage and its rate when anode area remains unchanged.Meanwhile, enlarging the anode area can increase the average effective potential and electro-osmotic drainage rate significantly.(3)The experimental results show that the variation tendency of drainage rate is similar to average effective potential. In the main stage of the tests, the relationship between them is basically linear. The average effective potential can be used as an evaluation standard of electro-osmotic drainage. The electro-osmotic migration of each test is very close in the test.(4)In the process of electro-osmosis,the uneven distribution of electric field intensity affects the final distribution of soil water content significantly. For regions equidistant from anode, the higher the electric field intensity, the lower final water content.Especially in the vicinity of the anode, the final distribution of water content for soil shows more unevenness.(5)Comsol is used to analyze the effect of electrode spacing on average effective potential difference. The results show that the potential near the cathode and anode region is very close after the electrode spacing is shortened to a certain distance.Under such spacing, the distribution of potential distribution is close to the parallel plate electrode. There is no need to shorten the electrodes spacing any more.
