Masonry pagodas are the eminent creations of ancient high-rise buildings in China.It owns great cultural and artistic value,and it is the valuable historic relics for studying the structure and construction technology of ancient Chinese architecture.The earthquakes happened frequently in recent years,for example,dozens of masonry pagodas had been destroyed randomly by Wenchuan Earthquake happened in 2008.The earthquake caused irredeemable loss for the government.So this problem about protecting the masonry pagodas draws researchers'attention gradually.And with the developing of modern technology,the protecting methods of masonry pagodas have changed from experience stage to scientific stage.In this thesis,the Ningshousi pagoda is chose as the main study object.The finite element models of Ningshousi pagoda which contains before and after strengthening models are simulated in midas/FEA by overall method based on the prospect data.And 3 seismic waves,which are EL-Centro wave,Taft wave and artificial wave respectively,are defined according to the specification.Then the models are analyzed by dynamic time-history method in the case of frequent earthquake and rare occurrence earthquake.At last,a contrast analysis about dynamic response between the unenforced and reinforced pagodas is completed based on the result.According to the results,there are some conclusions which could provide feasible reference for the strengthen project of Ningshousi pagoda.?1?Ningshousi pagoda?before and after strengthening models?could stay in elastic condition when it is under frequent seismic effect.The tower could keep intact under 3different seismic waves.The earthquake resistance performance of Ningshousi pagoda improved 96 percent;?2?The unenforced tower would appear many tiny cracks above 2ndd floor when it is under rare occurrence earthquake.And the tiny cracks would connect together into wider cracks.At last,the double effects of earthquake and P-?35?are likely lead to the collapse of the tower.?3?The reinforced tower stays in elastic condition except the 2ndd floor stays in elastoplastic condition when it is under rare occurrence earthquake.It indicate that the seismic resistance performance of the Ningshousi pagoda has been improved obviously.Few areas of the 2ndfloor is likely to be damaged badly but the tower could continue to keep itself as a whole and will not collapse.
