Recent survey shows that the use of Trinidad lake modified asphalt(TLA)has attracted more and more attention,because of it's construction and finance advantages.However,the current utilization of the TLA can not help resist fatigue cracking and permanent deformation on the pavement surface.In this article,Crumb rubbe(CR)was added to mix with TLA to enhance the performance of low temperature deformation and resisting fatigue cracking with its high elasticity property.Such TLA and CR composite modified asphalt can not only improve laboratory properties,but also mitigate environmental pollution.Based on the existing results,the preparation scheme of TLA and CR composite modified asphalt is TLA with 0%,10%,20%,30%,40%content and CR with 0%,5%,10%,15%,20%content.In phase I,the objective included evaluating the 25 samples' laboratory properties by fundamental and rheologic tests in order to finding the change regulation,drawing the following conclusion.Nol.both TLA and CR can improve the high temperature propoty of bisic asphalt.No2.CR is advantageous to low temperature propoty and elastic restruction but the excessive dose of CR would substantially increase the viscosity.Finally the optimum dosage of composite modified asphalt were 10%TLA/10%CR,20%TLA/10%CR,which samples'PG grade are PG70-28 and PG70-28,respectively.In phase ?,the objective was mixtures design including two optimum composite modified asphalt and 40%TLA which utilized in Foshan first loop line by Marshall Testing.According to the results,the optimum asphalt-aggregate ratio were 5.4%,5.8%,5.1%,respectively.In phase ?,3 mixtures was conducted in pavement performance including rut resistance,water stability,impermeability,fatigue cracking and low temperature defor-mation.The result shows that the two composite modified asphalts are less than TLA in rut resistance however improve a lot in fatigue cracking resistance and low temperature deformation.It is worth being used in the southern area of China.
