With the wide application of gas turbine, the limitations of gas turbine exhaust emissions around the world are more and more stringent. How to achieve better combustion performance and lower pollutant emission levels at the same time has become the focus of the current research content.Twin annular premixed swirl combustors use the way of pre-mixed and staged combustion. As a result,TAPS combustor is an advanced combustor which has advantages of good fuel atomization effect, high combustion efficiency, extensive stable working range, and low pollutant emissions, etc. The application prospect of this kind of combustor is very broad. In this paper, based on the technology of twin annular premixed swirl combustion, the design and improvement of a gas turbine combustor was carried out.The three-stage swirler is designed according to empirical formula. The combustion chamber has been improved and optimized by numerical simulation. The performance of TAPS combustor has been analyzed in four kinds of inlet condition. The main contents of this paper are:(1)Under the designed condition, using single-staged fuel injection on the pilot stage, the numerical simulation method is used to investigate the effect of the combination of the rotational direction, blade mounting angle of pilot swirlers and the position of the pilot nozzle to the combustion performance of the TAPS combustion chamber. The results show that the combustion performance of TAPS combustor is best when the first and third cyclones are in the same direction, the second cyclone is reversed, the blade mounting angles are 30° and 45°,respectively,and the pilot nozzle is located at the venturi inlet.(2)Under the designed condition, using double-staged fuel injection, the numerical simulation method is used to investigate the effect of the ratio of fuel stage and blade mounting angle of main swirler to the combustion performance of the TAPS combustor. The results show that the higher the main fuel ratio, the combustion efficiency will increase, the more uniform the outlet temperature distribution, the lower NOx emission.TAPS combustor will have the best performance with fuel ratio of 90% and blade mounting angle of 45° at main stage.(3)As the operating condition changes from 100% thrust to 7% thrust, the fuel stage strategy changes from double-staged to single-staged.The average temperature at the outlet of TAPS combustor will decrease, but the combustion efficiency is maintained at about 99% and the NOx emission is kept at a relatively low level.
