IMO is making a plan for the second generation intact stability criterion in recent years, and it has made a lot of official drafts according to multinational maritime organization's documents every year. With the joint effort of many countries, the frame of the second generation intact stability has been confirmed.IMO aims at the newly created criterion can meet the design requirement of modern ship, ensure the safety of ships in the design and navigation process by studying and confirming the content of theory value of the five failure modes. On the basis of the official outcome documents, this paper make a study of the calculation methods of vulnerability criteria for excessive acceleration, develop calculation program and analyzes the feature and difference between different levels of vulnerability criteria through sample calculation for various kinds of ship, the main content contains:Firstly, calculation method and theory of vulnerability criteria for excessive acceleration is studied;Secondly, based on the method and theory, the calculation programs of two levels of vulnerability criteria for excessive acceleration are developed, and the reliability of programs is verified through comparison with results in official draft documents;Thirdly, sample ships calculation has been done by self-developing program and criteria values are proposed based on the calculation results, which offers data support and reference to the establishment of excessive acceleration vulnerability criteria; Finally, based on a lot of sample calculation results, some key influential factors to assessment results are analyzed, some studies about the consistence between two different levels of vulnerability criteria and related suggestions are made.
