Rifling,as soul of the artillery,can make shells rotated to greatly increase range and accuracy.Rifling will be seriously worn out during the using,the wear greatly influence artillery`s performance and when it approaches a certain level,the artillery would be scrapped.That`s why how to make the measuring of rifling dimension accurately fast and automatically means a lot to improve the accuracy and predict the service life correctly.As for using inside micrometer measuring rifling dimension of the 37 mm caliber artillery costs so much time?not so accurate and not automatic,A dimension measuring system for the rifling of small caliber artillery pipe based on laser triangulation and vision inspection was designed in this paper.This system contains a crawling robot which can be self-centering and suit different inner diameter.It can carry probe and move steadily in the artillery pipe.The probe contains a high-resolution camera,it can take a picture about the section of artillery pipe which was illuminated by the annular light.Analyzing this picture through camera calibration?preprocessing?getting center line of the rifling?dividing lands of the rifling and fitting them into a circle after that,we can get the diameter of the lands.Combined with laser displacement sensor which provides axial displacement,we can measure dimension of the rifling automatically fast and conveniently.This system is simple?compact and easy for miniaturization.It`s also cheap and can measure fast.it has visual human-computer interaction interface which has abundant functions.Comparing to inside micrometer`s measuring on two points,it`s measurement on lands multi-points is more reasonable and accurate.By experiments,we proved that its` indication repeatability is less than 12 um and its` indication error is less than 30 um across the measuring range of 36mm-40 mm.This system satisfies technical requirements in conclusion.
