With the rapid increase of motor vehicles in China,there are concerns about the related problems such as air pollution and huge energy demand.It is of great significance to promote the green innovation of the automobile enterprises and develop the new energy automobile industry.At present,the development of China’s new energy auto industry is featured as high technology,high investment and high risk.It needs the guide and support of government policies.In this paper,data of the national level Chinese policy implementation on new energy automotive industry from 2001 to 2017 have been collected first,and content analysis method is applied to analyze the text of them.Based on it,this study divide China’s industrial policies on new energy auto industry into three stages: initial stage(2001-2007),promotion stage(2008-2011),and development stage(2012-current).With regard to types,they can be classified into supply policies,demand policies,and environmental policies.The study also provides analysis of the Japanese automotive industry policies for a comparative study.On this basis,combined with the analysis of green patent data of Dongfeng Motor Corporation in China and Toyota Auto Body Co in Japan,examine the role of different types of policies in green innovation of automobile enterprises.The results imply:(1)China has already formed a relatively systematic new energy auto industry policy portfolio;(2)industrial policy of new energy vehicles has an important influence on the green innovation of automobile enterprises;(3)there still exists a big gap between Chinese auto companies and Japanese top auto companies in the new energy vehicle technological field.
