The experimental research and finite element simulation analysis of previous study have confirmed that the weak-axis connection of I-section column with box-shaped panel zone is a form of connection with good ductility and high bearing capacity.In order to further expand the application of this connection,this paper studies the double-ribbed plates weak-axis of I-section column with box-shaped panel zone.The finite element models for each series of parameters considering the material damage were established to study the influence of various parameters on seismic performance,such as bearing capacity,stress path,hysteretic behavior,plastic rotation capacity,ductility performance,stiffness degradation,and energy dissipation.Meanwhile,this paper put forward improved suggestions for the connection.The main conclusions are as follows:1.The connection with double-ribbed plates can effectively avoid the brittle failure of the beam flange and skin plate butt weld.It can also improve the bearing capacity,energy dissipation capacity and ductility of the box-shaped panel zone.2.The length of the rib plate has a significant effect on the bearing capacity and ductility of the connection.This paper suggests the rib plate length ranges from 60%~75% of beam height,which can ensure that the box-shaped panel zone has enough rotational stiffness and good plastic rotation capacity.3.The height of the rib plate has an obvious effect on the mechanical properties of the box-shaped panel zone.However,the impact on energy consumption and ductility is less.The recommended rib plate height ranges from 40%~50% of rib plate length.4.The thick rib plate can ideally increase the bearing capacity of the connection.However,the thicker rib plate is easy to cause the quality defects of welding.Therefore,the thickness of rib plate should be limited within 50%~75% of beam flange thickness.5.The position of the rib plate has little effect on the energy consumption and ductility of the connection.It is recommended that the distance between rib plate and beam flange edge should be limited within 12.5%~37.5% of beam flange width.6.This paper put forward a novel connection with asymmetric double ribbed plate and widen beam-end flange.The finite element comparison analysis is carried out.The results show that the connection has similar bearing capacity with symmetric double ribbed plate connection,and high ductility with widen beam-end flange connection.The mechanical performance of this connection proved to be reasonable and reliable,and it can provide technical reference for the engineering application.
