With the increasing investment in the railway construction in recent years, the development of electrified railways has been widely applied in the high-speed and heavy haul railways, which are characterized by high speed, heavy traffic density, high tractive tonnage and current, high locomotive power, together with the large fault current and rail leakage resistance, leading to the intensive elevation in the rail potential, which seriously threatens the safety of people and equipment. Therefore, appropriate technical measures must be taken for the high speed and heavy load section to reduce the rail potential and solve the problem of traction return circuit grounding. After the heavy haul railway is introduced into the integrated grounding system, the distribution of the traction return circuit and the quantitative analysis of the electromagnetic interference of the signal system have not been systematically studied.Based on these, taking the integrated grounding system of Shanxi southern central railways(WA RI railway)as the research object, the thesis is aimed to analyze the distribution of the traction return circuit and the electromagnetic interference of track circuit. On the basis of the introduction of foreign integrated grounding techniques and standards, also according to the current feeding and earthing, rail potential characteristic and distribution regularity for several current power supply systems are deduced. We also analyze the influence of the main electrical parameters on rail potential in the integrated grounding system, and put forward a suitable integrated grounding system for the heavy haul railways in China, which could be applied to the design and evaluation of the heavy haul railway grounding project to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment and the reliable operation of the traction network.
