Oil Distribution(OD)box is an important part of Controllable Pitch Propeller,which influences the capability of CCP.Mostly,the seals of OD-boxes in the large-scale CPP are the floating-ring seals.In the design of shaft mounted OD-boxes,the requirements of leakage and temperature will be met by adjusting the clearance and length of seals as a common method.The temperature increase of seal rings is a common problem in the use of the OD-box.But increasing the clearance of seals can not relieve the heat problem and will probably increase the leakage of OD-box.This paper will base on structure and working theory of the floating-ring seals,use arithmetical method,FLUENT simulation and experimental method to research the circumferentially grooved floating-ring seal,and to solve the aforementioned heat problem.The main research of this paper is listed as following:1.Based on radial bearing lubrication theory to establish Reynolds equation of floating-ring seals flow-filed,use finite difference method to solve the equation,and calculate the static and dynamic characteristics of floating-ring seal.The press of oil film and the eccentricity,leakage,stiffness and damping coefficients of floating ring could be got as results.2.Use FLUENT simulation software to calculate the flow-field,leakage and temperature of the circumferentially grooved floating-ring seal.Based on arithmetical calculation of floating-ring seals and using of the treatment for ladder change of oil film,this paper gets the results about the static and dynamic characteristics of the circumferentially grooved floating-ring seal.3.Use FLUENT simulation software to analyze the leakage and heat of floating-ring seal influenced by the main factors,such as shape,depth,breadth,numbers,position and the space between the grooves,etc.At last,based on these analyses of this paper,choose an appropriate grooves structure to fit the shaft mounted OD-box.4.To compare the performance difference of floating-ring seals with or without grooves,this paper tested the leakage,temperature and abrasion of floating-ring seals in experiment,and proved the correctness of the arithmetical calculation and CFD simulation method.The designing of the circumferentially grooved floating-ring seals solved the temperature increase problem effectively and reduced the abrasion as expected.
