With technology becoming more and more present in our daily lives the way we interact with every object and how they interact with themselves is evolving and this is happening to objects in our houses,our home is becoming smart home.These last years,many new technologies arrived and improved our homes.Smartphones,smartwatches,or robots cleaners are science fiction gadgets that have become reality and has improved our homes.Home automation has been an exciting field that has detonated with new advances and today is known as a zone where “Internet of Things(Io T)” visions moves toward reality.This world of internet connection with smart devices is called Io T and we all are surrounded by it.We envision a smart home as a lively environment inhabited with smart,dynamically configurable consumer devices which include the feature of interacting with humans and other smart devices.In such a dynamic and active environment,there is a great need for an agile,lightweight,middleware device which can control the devices and electric appliance and communicates with the outer world.Smart homes is a complex technology,consisting of smart devices from different vendors having different configuration and communication standards that introduce the problem of the heterogeneous subsystem in a smart home,yet at the same time it is developing and being popular in our society.A need is emerging for a central management system to control all these heterogeneous devices.In this dissertation,we propose Raspberry Pi that acts as a middleware between the user and smart appliances which allow the user to control these heterogeneous devices in a federated manner.Most smart home appliances are controlled via expensive and delicate devices,but this dissertation presents a new trend of simple technologies that can be applied in a home to make it smart with a Raspberry Pi – cheaper,fully customizable and programmable small computer with support for a large number of peripherals and network communication.Using this technology,in an example of monitoring and determining the temperature and humidity of building,a full system,based on sensor Web elements,is designed and developed starting from scratch.This designed model highlights the advantage of Raspberry Pi – flexibility and the extensive possibility of its usage.
