The transmission shaft will produce vibration and noise during the power transfer process, which has an effect on ride comfort and NVH performance. The intermediate support is one of the key parts of transmission shaft assembly, which has the function of reducing vibration and noise.Besides, its vibration performance will directly affect the vehicle, and the change in the quality of intermediate support will cause varying degrees of impact on the transmission shaft and rear axle.Nowadays, vehicle is developed towards direction of lightweight, energy saving and environmental protection, and the lightweight of intermediate support is also one part of lightweight of vehicle,so the lightweight of it can reduce the fuel consumption and improve the NVH performance. This paper took the intermediate support of one crossover as researched goal, and doing research on it not only can satisfy the policy demand, but also can enhance the competition of the company. So,it is significant to do research on the lightweight of intermediate support,as it has engineering value and practical significance.Firstly, analyzed the kinematic and dynamic characteristic of universal joint and did research on the affordable torque of transmission shaft.Based on this, described the vibration caused by the above factors.Meanwhile, the force of the intermediate support was researched, which will set a theoretical base for the succeeding simulation research. Then the mathematical model of vibration isolation of intermediate support was built, the displacement response and the basic force of the intermediate support were derived, and evaluated its vibration isolation, besides, analyzed different factors’ effect to the vibration isolation.According to the drawing provided by the company, the finite element model of the intermediate support assembly of the drive shaft was built, and the aluminum alloy was chose as the lightweight material. The modes of the original and new transmission shaft were analyzed, and studied on the change of modal parameters and modal shapes. The result showed that the lightweight of intermediate support of the researched crossover made little difference to the mode of the transmission shaft assembly, which verified lightweight research is feasible. Then the dynamic model was established for dynamic simulation, and the influence of various factors on the vibration performance of the transmission shaft was studied, such as different rotating speed, deceleration condition, different stiffness and damping values. The influence of various factors on the NVH performance of the vehicle were obtained.Besides, the simulation results proved that the lightweight of intermediate support reached the goal of improving the vibration performance of transmission shaft assembly and NVH performance of vehicle.Lastly, the exciting force of intermediate support on condition that the crossover runs in a normal speed was got from the dynamic simulation.Based on this force, then used Workbench to check its strength performance, and got that the lightweight structure can satisfy the application requirement. It verified the feasibility of the lightweight scheme. This paper has done research on the lightweight of the intermediate support by the combination of theory and simulation, and has reached the goal of reduce mass of it,meanwhile, the vibration and noise were reduced, which improved the NVH performance of the researched crossover. The research achievements can give a certain reference for the lightweight and vibration and noise reduction of vehicle.
