Symbiotic Relationship Between Installation Art And Public Space

This essay aims at the relationship between the public art and geographical attributes;environment and architecture;space and human.Furthermore,by using the installation as a manifestation,combining the case of the public green space of Hanling museum to expound the multiple relationships and the artistic expression between the public installation art and architecture;human;environment.Meanwhile,as the artistic practice of a specific case,this essay is concentrating at discussing the installation as a form of public art,as which is different from the traditional art forms,such as urban and landscape sculptures.This case combines with environment,architecture and urban morphology,which integrates and inter-growths with the urban space.The process of the project design involves basic theoretical concepts;the relation between the environment and space,and also the modeling language of the individual artist.Both the original intention and the final demonstration are indicating the intimate relationship between the public installation art and urban spaces,meanwhile,as one of the modern art language,the installation has its specific art value and enormous vitality.From requirement research report,this public installation art design project is commissioned by Han ling Museum at Dongqian Lake,Ningbo,aiming at the design of public art work on green spaces surrounding the museum.The project intends to match with the design of the museum which designed by Kengo Kuma,and relates to the history also the natural view of the Dongqian Lake.Based on reference research summary,this essay uses public installation art as a media and a way of expression.Also,public installation art is an important expression form of public art.Art principles and papers about public installation art have the same direction and conception of public art.“Installation”,as a noun in the context of non-contemporary art,also can be referenced to public art,considering the art principle and the artistic dialogue.In previous papers,theory has always been discussed separately based on either contemporary arts or public arts.In this essay,public installation art is discussed in context of both contemporary arts and public artswith the connection and time and space.With the summary of the design research,from the design to fabrication,this project involves many technological difficulties,such as the technology of knitting the wire mesh and weaving the finished sculpture,which had never been used in traditional urban sculptures.The final finished material of this work uses the spiral digital knitting machine that designed by a Swiss Company.After iterated experiences with few improvements,finally we obtain a new urban sculpture material which we are satisfying of.As a form of the public installation art,this subject design is different from the pure artistic behavior,it turns into an art form which is much modern and freedom to the public space.The design is not just showing on the visual language,but also expressing on its own diversification and individuation.It can be said that the public space is rather than a simply physical public place,the space is special since it includes the fundamental element and the welfare of the city.This combination explains not only how the art language expressing in physical space,but also the fusion of spiritual space and emotion.
