As one of the most common mechanical transmission forms,involute gear tends to contributes to the large contact stress due to its convex-convex meshing form during the meshing process which ultimately results in increasing the overall stress of gear and shortening its operating lifetime.High-order-close gear produced by the close contact theory through applying the 'touching' concept into gear meshing can effectively solve this problem.It can reduce the contact stress and prolong the lifetime due to its convex-concave meshing form.This paper mainly demonstrates the superiority of the high-order-close gear by comparing it with the involute gear to discuss their transmission performance under the same condition.The main content and conclusions:High-order-close gear cutter's profile is obtained by using the piecewise involute.We establish the gear cutter parameter standard according to involute's specification which ultimately figures out the profile of the high-order-close gear by capitalizing the profile normal line method.Gear's model is obtained so as to carry out the performance analysis.High-order-close gear's synthetic curvature radius and slip rate during its meshing process were obtained to analyze its transmission performance.Besides,theoretical strength calculation of the gears which includes the bending and the contact strength were gotten.Single tooth finite element model of the two kinds of gears were established to carry out the gears' bending strength FEA.Root bending stress along the length and width of the gears are obtained.Strength performance of the gears are compared and analyzed.Using the single tooth models to carry out the gear thermal FEA.Temperature field and gratitude distribution were obtained.Based on the results,Thermal-Structure coupled field FEA were carried out.The equivalent stress in coupled field were gotten and compared with the results from the bending analysis without a coupled field.Meshing models of the gears were established in ANSYS to carry out the contact strength FEA.Contact stress distribution along the gear's meshing surface are obtained both in the meshing area of single tooth and double teeth.Strength performance of the gears are compared and analyzed.This paper indicates that compared to the involute gear,high-order-close gear possesses the better quality which has the larger synthetic curvature radius and the smaller slip rate under the same condition.Besides,high-order-close gear does better performance than the involute gear in the area of Gear's bending strength and contact strength.The research results of this paper prove the high-order-close gear's advantages over the involute gear and provide the reference for the future studies.
