The theory of narratology is a mature theory in the field of literary.It is the science that specifically discusses the narrative content and narrative discourse of narrative works.Narratology expands the connotation of semantics and gradually forms the narrative design in interdisciplinary research.Narrative design can more vividly explain the subject of the item and help the user understand the hidden meaning behind the item.It is a guiding when designing creative products.The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is a great building constructed under the special era.Its outstanding function weakens the cultural symbolism for the entire people at the beginning.The bridge does not have the independent creative industry like other cultural symbols,and there is few creative product about the bridge.It is an important form of commemorating the bridge to combine the content of the theory of narratology and use the narrative design to guide the development of the bridge’s creative products,along with give the products heavy sense of history and emotional attributes.The thesis traced the theoretical origin of narrative design,explored the content of the theory of narratology,analyzed the internal relationship between the theory of narratology and design.It interpreted the narrative design of the products,including the narrative principle of the products,the model and statement of products’ narrative design.Then,the general theory of product narrative design was introduced into the bridge’s creative products,the design principles of the bridge’s creative products were proposed,including story-telling,shape-telling,function-telling and situation-telling.Based on these principles,design research,design orientation,and program design were launched.The design practice of the bridge’s creative products was conducted.The thesis studied the history of Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge and explored elements of the bridge that can generally arouse resonance.The theory of narratology and narrative design were introduced into the creative products’ design of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge.The purpose is to broaden the memory form of the bridge,stimulate the emotional resonance of users,enrich product design methods in practice,and promote the interdisciplinary application of the theory of narratology.
