Friction damper has been widely studied by scholars at home and abroad.It has many advantages,such as,simple structure,strong energy dissipation ability,good Coulomb characteristic,less load and frequency influence,and it is convenient to take,low cost,convenient maintenance and installation.However,the traditional friction dampers have the same drawback that they can not automatically adjust the friction force according to the earthquake intensity.If determine the friction force according to the conditions of small earthquakes,in case,under large earthquake,the energy dissipation ability of the damper can not achieve the desired effect due to the smaller friction force;If determine the friction force according to the conditions of large earthquakes,in case,under the middle and small earthquake,the damper has less energy consumption and greater rigidity,which increases earthquake effect.In addition,the traditional friction damper does not have the self-recovering function.In order to overcome the above shortcomings,this paper presents a self-recovering variable friction damper,which can not only change the size of the friction force according to the seismic response of the structure,but also have the self-recovering function.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1.A new type of self-recovering variable friction damper is designed.The structure and working mechanism of the damper are introduced in detail,and analytic expression of the mechanical model is established.2.The mechanical tests of this new self-recovering variable friction damper were carried out.We have respectively studied about the effects of torque,displacement amplitude and loading frequency on the hysteretic curves and the mechanical parameters(energy dissipation per cycle,secant rigidity and equivalent damping ratio).The solid element model of this damper has been also established by using the ABAQUS finite element software,and the numerical simulations of this model have been carried out.Comparing of the results of the experimental results,the analytical results of the mechanical model and the results of the ABAQUS finite element method,which verifies the correctness of the theoretical model.3.Taking the three-story steel frame structure as an example,the dynamic time history analysis of steel structure with self-resetting variable friction damper was carried out by using ABAQUS finite element analysis software,and the seismic performance of the structure under small earthquakes and large earthquakes was compared and analyzed.
