Existing masonry structure is an important part of infrastructure and occupies a large proportion of civil construction in our country. In order to guarantee the safety of existing masonry structure,it's necessary to study the failure mechanism and mechanical performance and predict the structural damage in the process of actual use.Based on multi-scale numerical simulation method, the mechanical properties of masonry walls and the single-layer masonry model under pseudo static test were studied by using the nondestructive testing results of brick and mortar. The main contents and achievements of this paper are as follows:(1)The mechanical properties of brick and mortar can be obtained by the results of springback test of brick and penetration test of mortar on material scale.Based on discrete element method, the discrete element model of masonry RVE can be established.Considering 3 types of brick laying pattern and 8 types of shear-compressing ratio, the shear-compression tests of masonry are simulated. The results of simulation agree well with the experimental ones.It is shown that the discrete element model can be used to describe the shear-compression of masonry RVE by using the nondestructive testing results of brick and mortar.(2)Based on homogenization theory, the equivalent material properties of masonry RVE are applied to the homogenization numerical model of masonry walls on structural scale.Considering mortar strength grade, ratio of openings and aspect ratio, the pseudo static tests of masonry walls are simulated. The simulated and experimental results accord with each other, indicating masonry RVE can be used to study the mechanical performance for masonry walls.(3)Based on homogenization theory, the equivalent material properties of masonry RVE are applied to the homogenization numerical model of single-layer masonry model on structural scale. The pseudo static tests of single-layer masonry model under asymmetric damage are simulated. The simulated results are in good agreement with the testing results, indicating masonry RVE can be used to study the mechanical performance for single-layer masonry model.(4)Based on nondestructive testing results of brick and mortar, the multi-scale numerical simulation method can be used to predict the mechanical properties of existing masonry structures.
