With the development of technology and society,all kinds of new technologies,processes and materials are applied to the construction industry in twentieth century,meeting various demands for functions and shapes in different directions and levels.The buildings tend to be more and more complicated,diversified and large-scale.Compared with the traditional architectures,due to small damping ratio and high flexibility,these complex novel buildings are more sensitive to wind load.Wind load plays an important role in structural analysis,even becoming the major control load in these structural designs.The complete and reliable research program for characteristics of wind load on complex-shape buildings is absent now.The most changeful flow field and complicated wind pressure distribution on complex-shape buildings can not be forecasted and.The corresponding design reference data are not given in the code,as a result it is more urgent to study characteristics of wind load on complex-shape buildings.Based on a large number of relevant literature and data about the research,characteristics of natural wind in atmospheric boundary layer,the principal theories and the fundamental control equations of flow around bluff body were described in detail in this paper.The basic characteristics of the turbulent flow,numerical simulation methods,computational methods and the approach in the near wall region were are compared and analyzed.Based on these theoretical research,especially the full scale prototype of glasshouse model,numerical calculations by using computational fluid dynamics and experimental results in wind field were carried on comparative analysis.The results indicate several rules and principles about mesh generation,boundary conditions,turbulence model,numerical method and computational domain were summarized to verify the feasibility and accuracy of numerical analysis.Around research topic for wind load characteristics of complex building,the study about wind tunnel test and numerical simulation under the background of Xiangyang Grand Theater was proposed.The main research contents and results were as follows.Firstly,the main technical parameters and data processing methods used in wind tunnel test was included.According to the measured data,distribution of wind load on the building in different wind directions were acquired to find out weak spot of the structure,which could provide guidances and scientific basis for engineering practice.Secondly,the computational model of numerical analysis for wind pressure on the surface of Xiangyang Opera House and its flow field was built to summarize the regularities of distribution of wind pressure,velocity vector and turbulent kinetic energy.After comparative analysis between numerical simulation method and wind tunnel experiment,it presented that their results coincided very well with each other.All of these indicated that it was feasible to chose numerical simulation to simulate flow field around the complex building.And some references for similar research and engineering practice were given.
