Masonry structure has a long history and extensive distribution.The masonry structure has the disadvantages of poor integrity,low tensile strength,low shearing strength,poor seismic performance and so on,so a large number of early masonry structures need to be strengthened.High ductile concrete(HDC)is a new type of building material which has the characteristics of high strength,high ductility,tensile strain hardening and multi micro-cracks propagation,and which provides a new approach to the reinforcement of masonry structure.In order to promote the application of HDC material in the field of masonry structure reinforcement,the experimental study and theoretical analysis on the compressive behavior of brick masonry column strengthened with HDC are carried out.Because of the low strength of mortar in a lot of old masonry buildings,low strength mortar is adopted in this paper.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1)4 groups of specimens were made by strengthening brick masonry columns with HDC surface layer,and axial compression test was carried out.The ultimate capacity and axial deformation performance of them were studied.The axial compression bearing capacity of the reinforced specimen is theoretically calculated.The theoretical value is in good agreement with the experimental data,and the validity of the formula is verified.(2)The composite brick masonry short column reinforced with HDC was designed and tested under the static loading.Considering the different strengthening modes and different eccentricity parameters,the mechanical properties and failure modes of specimens are analyzed.The results show that the HDC reinforcement effectis good,which can significantly improve the bearing capacity of masonry column,increase the ductility and the integrity of the component.(3)Based on the test and analysis of mechanical properties of brick masonry columns strengthened with HDC,a theoretical formula about bearing capacity of axial compression and eccentric compression for composite brick masonry short column reinforced with HDC were proposed based on the composite masonry calculation model.The theoretical values are in good agreement with the experimental values and can be used as reference for reinforcement design.The results show that the proposed HDC-strengthening systems are effective in inhibiting the cracking of brick masonry columns,and improving the bearing capacity and ductility of brick masonry columns,and significantly improving the brittle failure characteristics of brick masonry columns.And it is an effective reinforcement method.
