Aluminum foam sandwich plate has many good characteristics,such as lightweight,high specific rigidity,high specific strength and good energy absorbing ability,have been widely used in high-tech domain,especially in shipbuilding.As a protective composite material,it is important to obtain the anti-penetration ability to play a effective role in protection.We design a new sandwich plates with steel skin,and aluminum foam core,which is an excellent and widely used foam material.We study the anti-penetration performance of the sandwich plates with aluminum foam core by experiment and numerical simulation.Specific content as follows:(1)Quasi-static compression tests on aluminum foam with different densities is conducted: Based on the quasi-static compression tests,the strain-stress curve of aluminum foam material is obtained.The relationship between the linear elastic stage,yield stage,compression stage and material densities of aluminum foam are studied;the deformation and failure mode of aluminum foam under quasi-static compression are studied.Then the reliable material parameters of aluminum foam is obtained.(2)Anti-penetration performance tests on sandwich plates is conducted: Experimental principle of penetration experimental device reformed from split hopkinson pressure bar experiment are introduced.Steel plate and sandwich plates with steel skin and aluminum foam core are penetrated by this device;high-speed camera is used to get the penetration process and the relationship between impact velocity and residual velocity of projectile,and then observe the dynamic response processes and analysis the failure modes of the target.(3)Based on the finite element software ANSYS/LS-DYNA to simulate the anti-penetration performance of sandwich plates and discuss the parameters of influence:Based on the steel plate material parameters obtained by literature and core material parameters obtained by quasi-static tests to simulate the penetration process under the same conditions of experiment to prove the correctness of simulation method.Based on the correct material parameters and simulation method,the corresponding calculation model is established,and the anti-penetrating performance of the sandwich panels is studied.The loading,structure parameters and so on are analyzed.The dynamic response processes,failure modes,deformation conditions and energy changes are analyzed.(4)Considering the influence of the water,the anti-penetration performance of front-water sandwich plates with aluminum foam is conducted: ALE method,one method couples fluid and solid,will be verified if it can correctly simulate the anti-penetration of underwater target by use the finite element software ANSYS/LS-DYNA to simulate.Then simulate the anti-penetration performance of water-front target.The velocity changes of projectile,the dynamic response processes,failure modes,deformation conditions and energy changes of sandwich plates are analyzed.Then the anti-penetrating performances of the sandwich plates with aluminum foam core in water-front situations and in air are compared to obtain the effects of water on anti-penetrating performance.
