Almost all major towns in the world are built along the corridors of rivers as a focused important natural networks as well as a public space for cultural and recreational resources. They are also used as a climate change mitigation factor because they help in designing resilient cities that help curb its impacts.Botswana's capital city Gaborone,s urban form and character was generally perceived as not pleasing or conducive to vibrant urban living as it lacks the aspect of placemaking. This is because Gaborone as a city has no developed Urban Design Framework to use and embrace to make the city liveable;functional;and to have a comprehensive urban shape and character. The proper development, use and strategic planning of open spaces in Gaborone City is an issue because more than 90 percent of the city's open spaces continue to exist unexplored and uncontrolled. This has resulted in the open spaces being unkempt and used by residents as refuse dumping areas, although there is the Gaborone City Landscape Masterplan prepared by Gaborone City Council, which has largely remained unimplementedThe Gaborone Development Plan states that Gaborone City lacks the public realm aspect which includes established and designated picnic sites for outdoor relaxation and entertainment for the benefits of the general public and well as the sense of belonging for the locals. The Gaborone Development Plan specifies that Gaborone City lacks defined and designated picnic sites for outdoor recreation and leisure for the betterment of the public at large and the feeling of belonging to the locals. However, the development plan has pinpointed the number of potential areas/locations as picnics, but it has never been implemented. This research undertakes a research of an Ecological River Corridor that bisects both the city of Gaborone and its neighboring public places. The primary focus of the research covers the ideology of tactical urbanism which seeks to examine multiple forms in which public areas are manifested, various ways in Which public spaces are understood, and different ways in which a model of place can be achieved and how it can be improved.
