The concentrated solar power have demonstrated to be an effective technology for power generation with insignificant environmental effects.This thesis discusses the possibility establishment of Parabolic Trough thermal power plant for South Asian Region.The feasibility calculation and assessment of the region's solar resource are assessed against solar insolation potential and different sites in the region and different sites has been selected and are assessed on basis of factors like DNI,Land and Slope using Geo Spatial Toolkit.The sites which has been selected are Ahmad Abad and Rahim Yar Khan from India and Pakistan respectively.The DNI for those sites are 2153KWh/m2-year and 2069KWh/m2-year for Rahim Yar Khan and Ahmad Abad respectively.Which meet the requirements for construction of Parabolic Trough Thermal Power Plant.Thermal storing system ensures plants operation at night and when sun solar Radiations are not available.A 50 MW plant is proposed with thermal storing system of 7.5 hours.The plant consists of 148 loops with 4 collectors per loop.The planned plant design has been verified using simulator SAM by considering physical model.The yearly energy production of 178.6 GW/he and 173.308 GW/he are found with capability factor of 39.3.4%and 40.4%for Ahmad Abad and Rahim Yar Khan respectively.The Leveled cost of Plant has been found 16.6 cent/kWh,which demonstrates that PSTPP can well compete with fossil fuel power plants.The main downside in fossil fuel power plants is that they produce greenhouse gases which results in global warming.The CSP plant has a benefit that it produces no greenhouse gases.The environmental viability of the proposed plant design indicates that it will avoid 123151 Metric-Ton/year of Carbon dioxide and is able to provide electricity to 89,000 homes.Shifting to Solar Energy from Conventional power plants will reduces the fuel import from Middle East.The CSP technology not only helps to overcome the energy gap in the region but will help to create jobs in the region.
