Research On IFC-Based BIM Data Checking Method

BIM technology,an efficiently collaborative tool,has been applied and prevailed on design and construction of rapidly developing construction industry.The expanding amount of BIM data in construction industry leads its validity to be one of the critical elements in the collaborative work through all of the processes.The traditional checking method is time consuming,prone to human error and dependent on the building inspector's experience.The purpose of this paper is to provide a general and reliable method for BIM data validation,combined with the future development of BIM technology and the application requirements of BIM data.IFC-based BIM data checking method is proposed in this paper.IFC standard can express the basic architecture of construction information model and the details,is an effective tool for BIM data verification.Requirements of BIM data validation are mostly from BIM standards and building codes,covering the application requirements of BIM data from different stages.After analyzing the clauses of BIM standards and building codes,the paper summarizes the checking needs,combined with the characteristics of IFC data,proposes a checking method from integrity,correctness and correlation of BIM data.Several tests of specific clauses are carried out on a practical case,verifying the feasibility of the proposed method.
