The issue of renewable energy for sustainable development has gained more significance in recent years. For a country that wants to move towards sustainable development,Sierra Leone therefore will need to achieve the modest environmental goals of a sustained development of viable renewab le energy resources such as wind, solar, biomass and hydropower etc.More so,the adoption of modern renewable energy technology is required to improve the standard of living as well as education, economic and social aspects of its citizens.Consequently, reducing the production of greenhouse emission associated with fossil fuel and fuel wood burning, which pose chronic health problem will be of greater importance to Sierra Leone. This study therefore explored the cognitive impact of renewable energy on attitude towards sustainable development in Sierra Leone and came up with solid policy implications as to how to make the most out of those mechanisms for sustainable development. The main purpose of the research was to identify the most prominent cognition of renewable energy for sustainable development.A survey was done to collect 199 usable questionnaires out of 250 from Multi-stakeholders who are charged with the responsibility of energy supply in Sierra Leone.Persons' correlation and multiple linear regression models were used to test the hypotheses of the study. The Results of correlation analysis showed that among the cognition of renewable energy the perceived value, the challenges and future prospects of renewable energy are statistically significa nt.It was further confirmed that while the challenges tend to be negatively correlated with sustainable development, the perceived value and future prospects of renewable energy were found to be positively correlated. The results further showed that the perceived value of renewable energy potential is the most prominent cognition of renewable energy for sustainable development.Based on the results, the study concluded with making a call for the Sierra Leone authorities, policy makers, investors in renewable resources,to offer more conducive business environment for renewable energy, and focus more attention in investing in renewable energy sources for expanding their capacity for sustainable development.
