Somalia is far from having a sustainable and independent energy system. The current energy mix in the country is: traditional biomass(90)crude oil petroleum products(10)and electricity(100)is mainly relied on imported petroleum and diesel generators. The present energy insecurity dilemma where demand for energy is sufficiently needed for sustainable development leaves Somalia with no option than to exploit her renewable energy resources and increase electricity supply. The study seeks to address five main research questions: a)what are the best alternatives of traditional energy sources to overcome energy poverty? B)And what barriers that prevent shifting to those alternatives? C)What are the policy practices and guidelines for usage renewable energy in the cities to reach urban sustainability? D)How are these policies applied from a United Nation Sustainable Energy for All perspective? And in order to find solution and better strategies to sustaining energy these paper aimed to study main challenges and core problems and also the current situation of energy in Somalia and all the attempts that has been made whether is planning,or police making to develop the energy sectors also study exist energy sectors of the country and if there is renewable energy project that has been develop. The four main Renewable Energy resources identified in Somalia are solar, biomass, hydro energy and wind energy.Detailed analysis for each resource was done. Therefore the study concludes with a plan on how to implement renewable energy strategies in the perspective of the UN SDGs and the action that needs to take as first step towards sustainable energy as well as recommends creation of regulatory framework that is RE friendly. In general, the most appropriate research design Report analysis, consultations, findings and questionnaires are eligible for use as a testing tool for finding answers to research questions.Where both formal and informal interviews, remain a good option in the study methodology in this sense. Also for this study, qualitative methodology was adapted from the choices made in research style, and several of these resources were used to develop a strong theoretical context, which enabled me to choose the ones I found most appropriate for this study. The books, reports, papers were found using Internet search engines.Examination of regional studies and reportsrelated to renewable energy projects, their evaluation, explanations for progress and lessons learned serve as major information source.
