STATCOM,as the most advanced reactive power compensator,has the characteristics of fast response of dynamic reactive power compensation equipment.It can effectively improve the voltage stability of the system,improve the dynamic reactive power reserve of the power grid,enhance the ability to withstand power grid accidents,and reduce the risk of large-scale blackout of the power grid.STATCOM can greatly enhance the reliability and operation level of transmission system and improve power quality.Therefore,strengthening the research on the application characteristics of STATCOM in the power system will bring significant economic and social benefits.This paper mainly studies the application characteristics of STATCOM in Dongguan power grid.Firstly,the working principle of STATCOM is described in detail.The main control modes of STATCOM are introduced,including transient voltage control mode,steady-state voltage regulation mode and constant reactive power output mode.The core technology of STATCOM and the outstanding advantages of STATCOM reactive power compensation are discussed.Then,the paper introduces the application of STATCOM in Dongguan Power Grid,and the key contents of the main circuit scheme of STATCOM,including connection type,valve group unit scheme,bypass design of valve group unit,start-up mode,system-level control strategy and daily maintenance measures of STATCOM.Finally,combining simulation verification with theoretical analysis,the operation state characteristics of Dongguan power grid under fault conditions are analyzed,including the influence of STATCOM on the short-circuit currents at the far end and near end of the system after it is connected to the power grid.Taking STATCOM at Shuixiang Station and STATCOM at Dongguan Station as examples,the transient characteristics of STATCOM under the far-zone and near-zone fault conditions are analyzed.At the same time,the DC overvoltage characteristics of STATCOM in Dongguan power grid fault are analyzed,and the causes of DC unit overvoltage of STATCOM in power system fault are explored,and the corresponding solutions are given.The simulation results of the paper are consistent with the theoretical analysis.The research results can provide theoretical guidance for the practical application of STATCOM in Dongguan Power Grid,which is conducive to enhancing the reliability and operation level of the transmission system and improving the power quality of Dongguan Power Grid.
