With the rapid development of higher education,the construction of campus environment is also of concern,the quality of campus environment could shape the aesthetic level,personality and attitude toward life gradually.At the same time,the artistic,cultural and campus overall atmosphere of the campus could be reflected from the perspective of campus open space construction.In fact,public art design is not merely piling up of artworks in an open space,it should be combined with the geographical features,consistent with the concept of university education,and strike a responsive chord in the hearts of teachers and students.This paper takes HIT as research background,combined with the HIT spirit and sustainable campus development to shape the campus public art system,form a HIT intangible assets and enhance the cohesion of the campus.Moreover,establishing mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship with the city,causing the widespread concern of campus public art design.First,defined the concept of campus open space in universities and public art and clarified the features and attributes,especially discussed the relationship and function between open space and public art,to make a preparation for launching the design.Next,conducted a comprehensive investigation and analysis of campus public art status of Harbin Institute of Technology,obtained a specific basis and sorted out the status quo from four levels.Finally,forming a highly targeted public art design principles,and put forward the design methods of Harbin Institute of Technology campus open space and public art,system planning from color,structure,paving,lighting,and identification systems.In addition,combined with the urban background and history of HIT to from an important support for public art design and campus space.
