Escalator was invented more than 100 years ago,which now is closely linked with human life,according to statistics,there are billions of people embark this transport tool every day.High efficiency,low price and energy saving now even in the future is the direction of development of the escalator,so the operation mode of the escalator with the development of science and technology become more diverse.Large shopping malls,public transport units prefer systems with energy-saving modes over conventional systems.In this paper,several operating modes of escalator are compared,the escalator with the automatic switching over function of line power and frequency converter is found to be the most competitive method for energy saving.Taking this operation mode escalator as the research object,the main equipments in this operation mode are designed and selected which include the radar sensor,the speed sensor,the main controller and the frequency converter.A control scheme is proposed which can reduce the impact of transient current when the mode is switched to energy saving.This method can protect the power module of the frequency converter from being damaged,which ensure that the whole system will not be stopped by such accident during the power switching.The experimental result shows that the control system can achieve the effect of smooth switching without additional equipment.
