LED lighting is currently being developed and popularized globally to replace the current mainstream fluorescent lamps,HID lamps and other light sources.LED lighting can also be developed rapidly in the field of outdoor lighting,thanks to its advantages such as simple,reliable,energy-saving and easy to control.The topology which often used in LED drivers including charge pump driven type,Switching Mode Power Supply type,linear power supply type,and Switching Mode Power Supply topology is widely used in LED driver circuit thanks to its advantages such as high efficiency,high power density,superior performance.Usually dual stage topology or three stage topologies are suitable for LED drivers for outdoor application,such as Boost PFC and half bridge resonant converter.Compared with indoor LED drivers,outdoor LED drivers have higher power levels,generally greater than 75 W.In addition,the outdoor LED drive has a higher level of Surge protection.The general requirements are greater than 4kV.Outdoor LED drivers have higher requirements for waterproof and dust-proof also,and generally required for IP65 and above.Based on the specific requirements of outdoor LED drivers,this paper makes an in-depth study on the protection circuit of lightning surge protection,and systematically presents the overall scheme of the surge protection circuit.The scheme of waterproof and dustproof is also summarized in this paper.In this paper,a design example of 180 W outdoor LED driver is presented.This LED driver requires a wide voltage input of 120-277 Vac,high power output of 180 W,wide output window,high efficiency,high surge protection level 6kV,IP65 +.According to the product design requirements,a dual stage topology is selected,BOOST PFC and half-bridge LCC resonant converter.The surge protection circuit adopts two-level clamping circuit,and the optimized design of the secondary clamping circuit is carried out.Eventually the designed prototype is fully consistent with the design requirements and the product is successfully run in mass production.
