With the rapid development of scientific and technological civilization and the concern of the society for energy conservation,as well as the improvement of people’s living environment and quality requirements, the contradiction between the people’s growing quality of life needs and the lack of architectural comfort is increasingly apparent. As a space for connecting indoor and outdoor environment, the transition space of the gallery not only plays a role in communication, but also has an important impact on the thermal environment inside the building and the energy consumption of the building. The focus of this paper is to study the transition space of the outer corridor, explore how to create a good thermal environment, and provide people with a comfortable indoor space. This paper takes Wuhan City,a hot summer and cold winter area,as an example. It uses the combination of theoretical research, field measurement and software simulation. The spatial elements(space scale, interface form, position orientation, shading method, window and wall ratio)of the outer gallery are the main The object is to study the influence of the transition space of the veranda on the thermal environment, and propose a design strategy that is conducive to the improvement of the thermal environment. The paper is divided into five parts. The first part is "Introduction".Firstly,it introduces the source of the topic, the basis of the topic and the research background. Then it expounds the purpose, significance and value of the research. Then it focuses on the research status at home and abroad as well as the research content and main application of this paper. The second part,“Climate, the relationship between the transition space of the veranda and the thermal environment of the building”,defines the relevant concepts and then introduces the various climate elements and the spatial elements of the corridor related to the thermal environment, and explains its impact on the thermal environment. It provides theoretical support for the study of the measured and design strategies of the transition space of the outer corridor in the hot summer and cold winter regions. The third part is “Site Survey Summary and Plan”.The transition space of a building exterior corridor in Wuhan is selected for on-site measurement. The method of controlling variables is adopted, and reasonable summer and winter measurement schemes are arranged respectively. The collection is related to different veranda space elements.Thermal environment data. The fourth part,"Measurement Analysis and Conclusion",compares and analyzes the collected thermal environment data, and explores the mechanism of the impact of the transition space on the thermal environment. The fifth part "Design strategy of transition space of outer corridor",based on the climate characteristics of hot summer and cold winter zone, combined with literature research, measured analysis conclusion and software simulation, spatial scale, interface form, position orientation, shading mode, window and wall ratio of outer gallery Conduct comparison and optimization design, and propose valuable and meaningful guiding design strategies. The research done in this paper is helpful to provide theoretical basis for the research on the thermal environment impact of the veranda and other transitional space in the hot summer and cold winter regions. On the other hand,it is hoped to provide detailed details for the architects through the combination of practice and theory.Specific design references guide architectural design and energy-efficient design.
