Research On The Localization Of Catholic Church In Shanxi (Before 1950)

On the basis of summarizing and supplement the previous research results,this paper not only reviews the localization process of the Catholic Church in Shanxi,but also supplements and specifics analyzes nine different period of Catholic architecture.These added examples enriche the research results of the earlier members in my team.At the same time,the paper is based on the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Shanxi Provincial Returned Students.As a kind of religious building with special symbolism,the Catholic Church has different meanings and missions for different groups of people when it is introduced into Shanxi.For missionaries,the Catholic Church not only assists them in fulfilling the sacred mission of spreading religious beliefs in foreign countries,but also reflects the national and national identity of the missionaries;for Shanxi natives,the Catholic Church is an exotic A building that is quite different from a native building.In addition,when a church building appears in a new environment,it is undoubtedly subject to the local physical environment.However,the process of the establishment and development of the Catholic Church in Shanxi has not been hindered by these external factors.Instead,it has formed a unique characteristic,that is,the characteristics of localization,due to changes in its environment.Based on above consideration,this paper focuses on the humanistic connotation and physical environment of the church,and the humanistic environment and unique physical environment faced after the introduction of the Catholic Church into Shanxi is the entry point.On the basis of previous researches,the existing Catholic churches in Shanxi built before 1950 were investigated in detail,and all the data of Shanxi Catholic buildings were compiled and summarized,which includes four parts.First of all,it sorts out the three aspects of Catholic communication background,media,mission history and parish change in Shanxi,and summarizes the basic characteristics of traditional European architecture.On this basis,it further analyzes multiculturalism.The characteristics of Shanxi Catholic Church in the environment;Secondly,based on the unique physical environment of Shanxi,the adaptive characteristics of Shanxi Catholic Church are analyzed from the perspectives of geographical environment,climate characteristics and resource materials.Finally,combined with the history of Catholicism in Shanxi Background and the development of Shanxi Diocese,the existing Catholic Church in Shanxi is divided into five development periods based on five time nodes.Based on the characteristics of each period,one or two concrete examples are selected to analyze the human environment and physical environment.The specific characteristics of this,to summarize the localization characteristics embodied in the Shanxi Catholic Church.In addition,the value and protection strategies of these Catholic churches were discussed accordingly.The analysis and study on the localization characteristics of Shanxi Catholic Church in specific humanistic environment and physical environment will help to promote the further study of Shanxi Catholic Church and provide detailed and solid basic materials for modern building research in Shanxi.The protection,transformation and utilization of the Catholic Church in Shanxi has reference and reference significance.In addition,the Shanxi Catholic case provides a valuable case for studying architecture in different cultural backgrounds,and how to communicate with localization and symbiosis.At the same time,it is instructive for how architecture conveys nationality and regionality through certain symbols.
