The purpose of this paper is todraw on existing research results of religious architecture for building developmentstatus of Harbin from the perspectives of religious buildings’ body and the externalenvironment in order to carry out an in-depth analysis on the religious architecturestyles and religious culture, which will play a positive role in Harbin’s architecturalculture and heritage protection to build a more harmonious and characteristic urbanspace.The basic point of the paper is that religious buildings in Harbin play an importantrole in urban architectural culture. Religious buildings have the characteristics ofEuropean architecture. A building does not exist alone, it must be linked with thesurrounding architectural landscape so as to build a harmonious urban space. By use ofmulti-disciplinary research approach, there are two main lines of research in the paper.First, based on the relevant data collection and evidence, it elaborates and studies theorigin and development of religion, the development of religious architecture, themodern history, development status and architectural characteristics of religiousarchitecture in Harbin. Second, the paper selects a few religious buildings of highresearch value and historical value to conduct detailed research mainly based on thefirst-hand actual data by relevant literature with the in-depth comparative analysis andargumentation. By studying their history and architectural style, the paper will study andcome to a conclusion of the basic status and architectural features of Harbin’s religiousbuildings. Through the further study of Harbin’s modern religious buildings inarchitectural forms, detailed decorations and so on, the paper explores the impact ofreligious buildings on urban architectural culture.
