When aircraft passes through the clouds with supercooled water droplets,some key parts such as wings,engine nacelles are prone to icing,which not only increases the weight of aircraft,but also affects its aerodynamic performance by changing the aerodynamic shape.This would decrease the wing lift,increase the wing drag and cause serious accidents such as engine parking.Therefore,it is particularly important to carry out anti-icing on these key parts.The current primary anti-icing measures include hot air anti-icing and electric heating,this article presents a new anti-icing method: the plasma jet technology based on DBD-PA(Dielectric-Barrier-Discharge Plasma Actuator)which anti-icing mechanism is very different from the former two means.Experimental studies were carried out for the NACA0012 airfoil on the anti-icing of plasma jet under icing conditions in the wind tunnel.Five unit experiments were carried out and the experimental parameters are given with the inflow temperature(-10?),velocity(30m/s),LWC(0.7g/m3)and MVD(20?m).We designed the plasma jet actuator,and attached it to the wing surface.By embedding in the thermocouple smartly,anti-icing performance can be tested.First,we investigated the anti-icing performance of plasma jet by adjusting the excitation voltage,excitation frequency and inflow LWC.Next,the anti-icing performance of the plasma jet above the embed electrode was confirmed,showing practical significance of understanding and developing the theory of plasma jet anti-icing technology.By comparing the distribution of the actuators streamwise and spanwise,we observed that the spanwise allocated actuators failed in generating plasma jet and icing occurred.However,the streamwise allocated actuators made up for the loss of performance.The observation is meaningful for optimization of the distribution of actuators.Finally,we compared the anti-icing performance of plasma jet and electric heating in effectiveness.Based on the form of actuator in this article,it is found that electric heating requires only half the power consumption of the plasma jet actuator with the same area,and anti-icing performance is even better.The optimized design of plasma jet actuators is still an open issue with great potentials.
