The design of transformers depends on a large number of empirical coefficients.For the design of power transformers,the range of parameters and empirical coefficients can be found in a large number of literatures,but they are not suitable for traction transformer design because of the different technical requirements and design concepts.Base on traction transformer technology from the former Soviet Union,China started to develop its own traction transformer product and technology in 1950 s.But till to Now,there is no traction transformer design coefficients in china,which can be used for EMU traction transformer.It is still a difficult problem to design a traction transformer with light weight,large-scale capacity and low losses for high-speed EMU.This paper summarizes the design methods and procedure which used in this project.The purpose of which is to design and develop an alternative solution for traction transformers of CRH1 and Sweden Regina EMU,and to summarize procedure and method in order to make traction transformer design process programmatically,rapidly,Accurately and possibly for Model validation.The steps of the design process included: to establish the parametric 3D structure model for traction transformer;to get a series of traction transformer solution via interpolation and iteration;to select out all correct solutions in order to fix the range of all empirical coefficients via electromagnetic simulation;to find out the best solution via comparing weight and cost;to produce a prototype transformer for type test.The type test result shows the solution of traction transformer meet the requirement completely with light weight,low losses and low cost.So the correctness of the method and procedure is verified by the experimental results of the prototype,and the feasibility and superiority of the simulation design method for traction transformer are proved.The method and procedure has been programed into software especially for traction transformer design.Via this project,I found out the value range of empirical coefficients for traction transformer design,completed the design of two EMU traction transformers and produced two types of prototype for type test.The type test result shows that the technical performance of these two prototype transformers meets the design requirements with lighter weight,lower losses and cost.It is proved that the design method and the empirical coefficient are correct and effective,and can be transplanted in other traction transformers design and development.In this paper,the no-load simulation,the short-circuit impedance simulation and the no-load inrush current simulation of traction transformer are introduced,which can be used as a reference case for the design and simulation work of EMU traction transformers...
