Intelligent transportation system and smart city have created a great research interest in vehicular ad hoc networks.Vehicular ad hoc networks(VANET)are a kind of mobile ad hoc networks to enhance the safety and efficiency of traffic and to provide the driver with over the horizon driving experience. It has attracted great attention of government departments, academia and industry circles.Unfortunately, because of the openness of wireless channels,VANET is more vulnerable to be attacked by adversaries.IEEE 1609.2 specified security measures to guarantee the integrity and authenticity of VANET messages. However,if VANET only relies on the basic security communication scheme,it cannot satisfy more security and privacy requirements. This thesis studies the problem of privacy-preserving authentication and co-presence verification in VANET,and proposes an efficient authentication scheme for privacy-preserving in secure vehicular communications and a co-presence verification scheme based on physical context. The main research contents and contributions of this thesis are following:To perform cooperative operations, vehicles should broadcast traffic information to RSU and other vehicles periodically.Unfortunately, the massive messages should be digitally signed and verified in a very short time to the real-time constraints. To deal with this issue, this thesis proposes an efficient anonymous authentication scheme,in which RSU becomes the message center that can establish the session relationship with the surrounding vehicles and assign temporary identities to vehicles.Using the temporary identity and session key, every vehicle is only responsible for transmitting messages to RSU,the latter for collecting and validating messages from vehicles and broadcasting the information verified. To obtain traffic information, any vehicle only needs to verify the broadcast messages from RSU.In addition, the proposed scheme can provide anonymity in the RSU's coverage. The security and performance analysis illustrates that the proposed scheme can effectively protect the use's security and provide fast authentication. In the platoon, the leader vehicle cannot guarantee the existence of the candidate vehicle only by identity authentication. In order to address this problem, the thesis proposes a co-presence verification scheme of a vehicle formation by verifying physical context. The purposed scheme leverages the randomness and timeliness of the sensor data in the driving period to ensure that the eavesdropper cannot obtain the generated key.By means of fuzzy commitment method, the thesis studies the co-presence verification and key agreement method based on the similarity of the physical context between the communicating parties. From the point of view that the vehicle identity is bound to the real-time physical context of the vehicle, the acceleration sensor data of the vehicle is collected as the realtime physical context. We propose a secure and efficient key agreement scheme, which is based on the similarity of physical context and fuzzy commitment method and leverages the time interval between multiple peaks as the features. Finally, the co-presence verification between vehicles is realized.
