Due to the rapid development of China’s social and economic level and the rapid acceleration of urbanization, the number of motor vehicles in China has increased rapidly. In order to match the rapidly developing traffic demand,China constantly increases the construction of urban roads, but it still cannot meet the increasing travel demand of residents.Traffic congestion has become a worldwide problem.Overuse of certain roads is one of the causes of traffic congestion. Therefore, understanding people’s behavior of route choice provides research ideas for relieving traffic congestion. In the urban road network, people’s path choice is not always the shortest distance route, but affected by the urban structure, building environment, road network structure and other factors. Each traveler usually selects the optimal travel route from the origin to the destination by experience in their own travel process. In previous uncertain travel path selection models, most of the models adopted were based on the theory of expected utility and prospect theory. These models assumed that the traveler was rational or limited rationality, and did not consider the factors of urban structure and road network structure.Workload and achievements of this paper are that the heuristic decision, space cognition and community recognition theory are combined to describe the relationship between traveler route choice and road network structure.Community structure algorithm based on modality is used to decompose the road network. The aim is to represent the people’s cognition process and identify the travel zone. The corresponding route choice model based on community recognition theory is established. The algorithm consists of three steps.Firstly, people recognize the structure of the road network and judge the area where the origin and destination are.Secondly, they make a choice among the major road sets connecting the zones where the origin and destination are. Finally, they make a local route choice whithin the zones where the origin and destination locate.Taking the urban road network of Changsha city as an example, the static travel resistance(distance)and dynamic travel resistance(speed)are used to decompose the urban road network of Changsha city, and the route choice set is calculated.Questionnaire survey method and taxi GPS data were used to extract the actual path choice trajectory, and the theoretical results were compared with the actual survey results. The research results of this thesis have an important theoretical significance and practical value. This model can determine the skeleton road of the urban road network, analyze the roads in the existing road network which do not match the people’s usage, and analyze whether the existing roads’ level and the travel capacity matches the traveler’s usage requirement.Under the road section speed attribute, the result of the community division between the "peak time speed" and "flat peak time speed" is different, therefore this model can provide a theoretical basis for generating a traffic management strategy about the difference between the peak time and the flat peak time.
