The ground transportation in Southwest China is inconvenient,and the air transportation industry develops rapidly.As the infrastructure of regional air transport service,regional airports play an important supporting role in the air transport network.Due to the slow development of regional air transport in Southwest China,most of the regional airports are in the state of loss operation.The relationship between regional airports and regional economic development has become a common concern of the industry and local governments and needs further in-depth study.Firstly,the paper defines the concept of regional airport and regional economy,and according to the current situation of the development of regional airport in Southwest China,dividing the regional airports in Southwest China into tourism regional airports and regional airports that mainly serving regional economy.Then,the relationship between regional airport and regional economy is discussed.Secondly,taking Southwest regional airport as an example,to analyze whether there is a long-term co-integration relationship between airport passenger throughput and regional multi economic indicators by using Co-integration test,VEC model and Granger causality test,studying the dynamic relationship between passenger throughput and multi economic indicators,and whether there is Granger causality and makes the direction clearly.The results show that the Southwest regional airport has a long-term stable equilibrium relationship with GDP,Per Capita Disposable Income,Population and the number of tourist;in the short-term dynamic fluctuation,the largest impact on passenger throughput is Per Capita Disposable Income,the smallest impact is the number of tourist,and there is a significant Granger causality between GDP and passenger throughput.In order to deeply analyze the co-integration relationship between different types of regional airports and regional economy in Southwest China,choosing Jiuhuang airport,a representative tourism regional airport,and Pu’er airport,a regional economic service regional airport to make co-integration analyses.Through the analyses of co integration test,VEC model and Granger causality test to find out the extent of influence between regional economic indicators and airport passenger throughput,and the Granger causality between the airport passenger throughput and economic indicators.The results show that the tourism industry in Aba has a great impact on Jiuhuang airport,and Jiuhuang airport has no significant impact on the economy of Aba;the employment of the tertiary industry in Pu’er City has an obervious impact on Pu’er airport,and Pu’er airport plays a significant role in promoting the economic development of Pu’er City.Finally,according to the analysis results,some suggestions are put forward the coordinated development of regional economy and regional airports in Southwest China.
