Traffic accidents caused by overloading trucks have occurred frequently in recent years, which causes serious economic losses.Traditional methods of detecting vehicle overload based on static,is inefficient and even causes traffic jams. The Weigh-In-Motion(WIM)method is superior to the static weighing method with time-saving and higher traffic efficiency. However, the WIM method encounters various shortcomings, such as high costs for installation and maintenance, and low accuracy of measurements. Therefore, there is an urgent need to resolve the contradiction between the price and accuracy of WIM system. In this article,we propose a pavement moving load identification theory using piezo-electric sensors. This theory is based on pavement mechanics and piezoelectric theory.Firstly, the stress fields of the half-space model and the finite thickness model under the axisymmetric load are derived based on the pavement layered elastic theory and elastic half-space theory. Then,we establish the the model of the force-electricity coupling relationship of the piezoelectric sensor under different working conditions based on the piezoelectric theory. After that, the time-varying load and moving load experiments are design to verify the theoretical recognition model. The effects of different vehicle speeds and axle loads are simulated by changing the load and loading frequency of the MTS test The recognition model is proved effective by comparing the inversion results with applied stress. In adda-tion,the results of the MTS test indicates that the frequency is significant to the output of the voltage signal, which in turn will affect the identification result of the load. Finally, the MTS test is simulated by a finite element software Abaqus. The results of mechanical output are in good agreement with the applied stress. For the results of electrical output, the simulated voltage signals are closed with experiments when the load frequency is 1 Hz.
