The U-shaped connection between beam and concrete filled tubular column is a new type of beam to column joint.The main structure characteristic is that the flange of U-shaped connection is welded to the face of the column,and its web is connected to the steel beam by end plate using high-strength bolts.This new type of joint could overcome the shortcomings of drilling holes on the column,makes more convenient in the construction and improves the force path and enriches the form of semi-rigid joint.To solve the problem above,the static behavior of this joint with the method combined finite element analysis and theoretical analysis were studied.The main research works are summarised as following:1.Based on the finished monotonic loading tests,typical damage pattern and moment-rotation curve are simulated by finite element software to check the validity and the reliability of the finite element procedure,on which the subsequent research work will be based.2.The typical model of U-shaped connection between beam and concrete filled tubular column is developed by the finite element software ABAQUS to analyze their working mechanism,their distribution of stress in panel zone and their feature of deformation.the relationship of moment-rotation of joint under different parameters,flexural stiffness,joint rigidity is analyzed.The main influence factor and effect rule of the relationship of moment-rotation of joint could be determined.3.Utilizing the FEM analytic software named ABAQUS,the model of U-shaped connection between beam and concrete filled tubular column is proposed to analysis the working mechanism of joints,the distribution of stress and the deformation in panel zone and so on.The static performance of joints influenced by different parameters is also discussed.4.Based on parametric analysis of static behavior of U-shaped connection between beam and concrete filled tubular column,the damage pattern of the U-shaped connection is analyzed under the relevant influence of the ratio of width-to-webthickness,the ratio of height-to-flange thickness and the distance of the bolt hole to the end.The computed model of U-shaped connection bearing capacity is based on the theory of yield line.,which is compared with the result of finite element analysis.
