As an important part of smart cities, vehicle ad hoc networks have attracted much attention from both industry and academia. In a vehicle ad hoc networks, generating a secure session key to facilitate subsequent data-in-transfer between two or more protocol entities is crucial, which can be achieved by using an authenticated key agreement protocol. However, most of the existing identity-based two-party authenticated key agreement protocols have significant computational requirements or are known to be insecure. Thus,in this paper,a secure and efficient identity-based two-party authenticated key agreement protocol is presented. The security of our novel protocol is proved in the eCK model, which is the most powerful random oracle model and has been widely used in the security proof of ID-based key agreement protocols currently. It is because that eCK model has better capability to describe the ability of an adversary than the famous CK model.Additionally, this protocol involves the discrete logarithm problem on elliptic curve rather than complex bilinear pairing computations.Meanwhile,it can generate a valid session key in two rounds. Then,in Windows 7,this protocol is simulated by using Visual Studio 2017 and Miracl cryptography library. The experimental result shows that the proposed protocol has the property of low computaional cost and less running time.So this protocol is very suitable for the real-time networks, like the vehicle ad hoc network. Finally,we evaluate its performance for potential utility in the vehicle ad hoc network.
