The achievement of a well-off society allows people in China improve their living standard largely and that in this era, tourism has newly become an important part of national economy as a significant integrated industry. With the rapid development of tourism, the number of tourists and accompanying traffic demand experienced a desirable increase, which plays a more important role in transportation with its distinct regularity and seasonality.Acting as carrier of tourism traffic, tourism traffic network is also responsible for daily traffic. What the network faces are more than series of possible problems like traffic congestion and environmental pollution.Accordingly, how to cater for ever-increasing need of tourism traffic has become a new challenge for transportation planning and management today. In recent decades, considerable attention has been paid to highway network planning in our country, while studies focusing on sustainable tourism traffic networks, especially the equilibrium of limited tourism resources and traffic resources, have proven less successful.Aiming at the creativity, sustainability, cooperation, green, opening and sharing for the future, sustainable development of tourism traffic network calls for a systematic planning method. The work of this paper mainly covers three aspects:(1)Sustainability analysis of tourism traffic network of Guangdong Province.Focusing on the characteristics of physical geography and social economy, the sustainability of current tourism traffic network of Guangdong Province is analyzed. In addition, relative work and research on tourism traffic and sustainable planning of network are reviewed.Based on the sustainability and resource equilibrium of tourism traffic network in Guangdong Province, the given area was divided into five part as subarea for a comprehensive analysis, with main cities as key nodes in the whole network. The lateral comparison of current distribution of tourism resource and traffic resource among areas emphasizes the importance of a better planning for the sustainability and resource equilibrium of the tourism traffic network.(2)Heterogeneous factor analysis of service level of tourism traffic.Firstly, this paper defines the service of tourism traffic and gives a classification of the service level of tourism traffic. On the basis of the heterogeneous effect, the possible factors are analyzed respectively from both aspects of tourism resource and traffic resource. Then relative theory of multiplefactors analysis models of tourism traffic service that considers heterogeneity is introduced following the steps of modeling, basic form and testing method in line.Indicators of tourism resource and traffic resource are compared via cross distribution charts of frequency before being employed in the random parameter logit model and latent class logit model with the use of Nlogit, which could work out their influence on the service level of tourism traffic. This paper also set multinomial logit model that ignore the heterogeneity as a contrast. Results shows that both random parameter logit model and latent class logit model could better catch the heterogeneous factors in comparison to the multinomial logit model, and that the random parameter model has a wider range of application in the analysis on the service level of tourism traffic. As following, this paper also quantifies the influence of factors on the service level F of tourism traffic(heavy congestion)through boundary effect analysis, where the weight of each factors in the node importance degree could be calculated.(3)A tourism traffic based multi-objective optimization model is built, where we examined three main tourism traffic factors,i.e.,socioeconomic benefits, levelling benefits of tourism and traffic resources, and green benefits, which have been identified as important aspects of the multi-objective model. The socioeconomic benefits mainly consist of the optimization cost of the tourism traffic network and the time cost saved for road users. The levelling benefits of tourism and traffic resources comprise both the investment and income of tourism projects. In addition, emission of carbon dioxide is set as a fundamental index of green benefits. Then,a genetic algorithm approach with adapted parameters has been developed to solve the established model.Through the adjustment of relevant parameters,Pareto solutions were obtained at a high-iteration speed. This comprehensive benefit-oriented model not only paves the way to utilize the importance degree of nodes to quantify the long-neglected radiation effect of the tourism economy, but also take the heterogeneous effect from indicators of the service level of tourism traffic into consideration in the weight of node importance degree. In this way,the model result become more exact in the prediction and involved factors are more flexible and relevant to regional characteristics compared with other models.(4)Through conceptual transfer,we introduced the idea of the tourism traffic matching curve, which provided a direct and efficient evaluation method for the equilibrium of the tourism traffic network. On the curve, the abscissa and the vertical axis stand for the importance degree of the tourism node and the cumulative percentage of the network scale respectively. It is notable that the slope change of the curve could evaluate the equilibrium of allocations of the network, and that the boundaries of two indicators,i.e.,the Tourism Traffic Uniformity Coefficient(TLCU)and Curvature Coefficient(TLCC),are calculated in terms of the results of the optimization model and are used as evaluation criteria. Thus, the corresponding indicators of the current network could be determined and compared with standards, providing a comprehensive distribution analysis of tourism resource and traffic resource.Relative to the current indicators,a certain range was also successfully identified wherein jump phenomena could possibly occur. The results of the curve show not only the imbalance of tourism resource and traffic resource but also their possible influence on the sustainability of the tourism traffic network.More importantly, the calculation results agreed with the tourism matching curve. In comparison to traditional method, the planning method of sustainable network based on the tourism traffic matching curve proposed by this paper could provide important advice including priority of planning scheme and the work amount at the level of certain nodes.Besides, the practical case study in this paper not only provided proof of the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed system, based on graphs and concise results, but also ensures that the results are more direct and effective. The detailed suggestions on whether a node should be optimized and its sequence make it possible to provide an effective planning scheme for the sustainability of the entire tourism traffic network.
